UNBS meets Inter-religious Council of Uganda

UNBS hosted the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) to a courtesy visit at the UNBS Head Offices in Bweyogerere.

The Council discussed possible areas of collaboration with UNBS which included;

• Partnering to build the national quality culture
• Supporting economic inclusion of MSMEs by addressing certification barriers that may limit access to markets
• Participating in IRCU’s regional and national multi-stakeholder dialogues
• Youth empowerment and community vigilance activities by framing standards compliance as a tool for responsible citizenship and dignified enterprises

The Council also requested UNBS to support IRCU’s efforts towards peaceful, credible 2026 elections by working with the Electoral Commission to ensure that there is a peaceful election  process in Uganda through:

• Ensuring that ballot paper specifications meet requirements of the standards and cannot be counterfeited
• Ensuring that the quality of ICT material used by the Electro-Commission meets the requirements of the standards
• Use of standards as tools to achieve efficient and credible elections.

NOTE: The IRCU’s work is rooted in leveraging religious leaders and faith-based structures to deliver services from the national level to local communities. The services are provided through a vast network of religiously affiliated institutions, like health services, universities, schools, vocational institutions, regional and district governance structures, including churches and mosques.
