NOTICE To ALL EXPORTERS, IMPORTERS, AND DEALERS OF USED MOTOR VEHICLES

The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is mandated to protect the health and safety of Ugandans and the environment through the implementation and enforcement of Compulsory Uganda Standards. The Bureau also has the mandate to promote fair trade and contribute to national development through the develppment, implementation, and enforcement of standards for both locally manufactured and imported products.

In accordance with the UNBS (Inspection and Clearance of Imports) Regulations, 2022, all Used Motor Vehicles coming from Japan, United Kingdom, Singapore, South Africa and United Arab Emirates must undergo inspection for conformity to Compulsory Uganda Standard, US 845:2008 — Road vehicles — Code of practice for inspection and testing of used motor vehicles for roadworthiness.

Effective Thursday, November 16, 2023, the assessment for conformity/ roadworthiness of all Used Motor Vehicles coming into the country, will be done here in Uganda, under the Destination Inspection program, at an inspection fee of USD 140 or its equivalent, by UNBS inspectors prior to release of the Used Motor Vehicles from the customs controlled areas, until further notice.
