  14th October , 2022 ,       Hits: 2352

Uganda through the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) joins the rest of the World in celebrating the “World Standards Day” under the themeOur Shared Vision for a Better World, Standards for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.

This day is set aside to recognize and pay tribute to the Experts who volunteer their valuable resources in developing Standards to create a better world for all.

This year, the focus is on how we can get a world that is better, fairer and more sustainable through attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Standards therefore offer some of the practical solutions to enable realization of these SDGs.

As part of its mandate, Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) develops, promotes and enforces National Standards as well as coordinating Regional and International standardization business, including editing and publishing of standards and related information.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) include: No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-Being, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Clean Water, Affordable and Clean Energy, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, Reduced Inequality, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Responsible Consumption and Production, Climate Action, Life Below Water, Life on Land, Peace Justice and Strong Institutions and Partnerships for the Goals, respectively.

In order to achieve some of these SDGs which are aimed at addressing Social Imbalances, developing a Sustainable Economy and slowing the rate of Climate Change e.tc, there is need for stronger cooperation  between the Public and Private Sector  Actors in using the available tools, including application of National Standards and Conformity Assessment Services.

In order to contribute towards the attainment of the SDGs, the Bureau has of to-date developed over 4,548  Uganda Standards in the areas of Food and Agriculture, Engineering, Chemicals and Consumer Products, Services and Management most of which have been harmonized for application internationally.

The following Uganda Standards are therefore directly relevant to the attainment of SDGs;
