NOTICE T0 ALL IMPORTERS AND DEALERS OF USED MOTOR VEHICLES

The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is mandated to protect the health and safety of Ugandans and the environment through the implementation and enforcement of Compulsory Uganda Standards. The Bureau also has the mandate to promote fair trade and contribute to national development through the development, implementation, and enforcement of standards for both locally manufactured and imported products.

In accordance with the UNBS (Inspection and Clearance of Imports)

Regulations, 2022, all Used Motor Vehicles imported from Japan, United Kingdom, Singapore, South Africa and United Arab Emirates are now subject to inspection against Uganda Standard US 845:2017 — Road vehicles — Code of Practice for Inspection and Testing of Used Motor Vehicles for Roadworthiness, a compulsory Uganda Standard, from their countries of export before being imported into Uganda under the UNBS Pre-Export for Conformity (PVOC) Program by the UNBS approved service provider Quality Inspection Services Inc. Japan.

UNBS has been facilitating the process through implementing a Destination Inspection program which ended 1 st November,2023.

Motor vehicles arriving in Uganda without a Certificate of Roadworthiness (CRW) shall be subject to a penalty of 15% CIF value and Destination Inspection which shall require payment of USD 140 for each motor vehicle.
