In accordance with the Inspection and Clearance of Imports Regulations of 2022, all imported commodities covered by Compulsory Uganda Standards must be inspected and cleared by Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) and be issued with a UNBS Imports Clearance Certificate (ICC) before distribution and sale on the Uganda Market.
This measure was put in place by the Government of Uganda to protect the consumers and users of the imported commodities against the health and safety hazards that can be caused by imported dangerous substandard products and to safeguard the environment.
UNBS hereby informs all importers, clearing agents, transporters, bond owners, and all concerned stakeholders that all imported commodities that are covered by Compulsory Uganda Standards must be presented to UNBS inspectors at the entry points or points of clearance to ensure that they are inspected and issued with the Imports Clearance Certificate. Clearing agents are required to ensure that all products covered by Compulsory Uganda Standards are presented to UNBS for clearance including those that may have missed tagging/ selection in the ASYCUDA system.
Any imported commodities found to have bypassed the UNBS Inspection and Clearance process will be impounded and the responsible importer and clearing agent will be handled in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations.
UNBS appreciates efforts by all concerned stakeholders in facilitating the business community to comply with the mandatory imports inspection and clearance processes.
