UNBS HOSTS KENAS IN COLLABORATION WITH UGANAS TO BOOST COLLABORATION AND CAPACITY BUILDING FOR OPERATIONALIZATION OF ACCREDITATION SERVICES IN THE EAC REGION

  18th July , 2024     HITS: 494

The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), led by the Executive Director Eng. James N.Kasigwa has hosted Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS) delegation headed by the newly appointed KENAS CEO, Dr. Walter Ongeti (Ph.D., MBA, B.Ed, CS, FKIM), in collaboration with Uganda National Accreditation System (UGANAS) aimed at boosting collaboration and capacity building for the operationalization of accreditation services in Uganda by UGANAS as well as reviving  the East African Accreditation Board (EAAB).

Operationalization of UGANAS is envisaged to provide easy access of credible accreditation services in Uganda, thereby reducing the cost of accreditation of conformity assessment bodies such as Certification bodies, Inspection bodies, Testing Laboratories, Medical Laboratories and Calibration Laboratories.

The East African Accreditation Board (EAAB) is another Statutory committee established under the SQMT Act 2006 with a mandate to facilitate cooperation and coordinate accreditation activities to avoid duplication of functions of the national accreditation bodies and national focal points.
